We’re very lucky to have an MP who is also a Fairtrade supporter. Both his Parliamentary and Holmfirth offices have Fairtrade coffee for staff and visitors, and he also asks for Fairtrade when out and about. The best example of this is that Grand Central Trains made the switch to Fairtrade after being challenged by Jason!
Members of Holme Valley Fairtrade met with Jason McCartney MP this month to share our commitment to Fairtrade, to demonstrate how important this issue is to his constituents, and to ask for his support for the latest campaign from The Fairtrade Foundation: “Show Your Hand”. In September the Government will be involved in setting the new Sustainable Development Goals (which replace the Millenium Goals). These goals offer a real opportunity to put Fairtrade at the centre of trade policy and could create fair, sustainable trade. The Fairtrade Foundation asked campaigners to raise this opportunity with the Government and demand action to make trade fair. Details on this campaign can be found here: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/en/get-involved/current-campaigns/show-your-hand/take-action
